Switching from tamoxifen to anastrozole after two year of treatment
A group of drugs called aromatase inhibitors have recently started dominating the hormonal therapy of breast cancer. These drugs work by blocking the enzyme aromatase, which is necessary to produce the female hormone estrogen. Aromatase inhibitors thus decrease the levels of estrogen hormone in women. Estrogen production in pre-menopausal women do not depend on aromatase enzyme hence these groups or drugs are not effective in pre-menopausal women unless the ovarian function is blocked.
